Banning Motorsports takes victory in the 2009 Tecate SCORE Baja 500
May 30, 2009 half the team headed south to Ensanada, Mexico with one goal in mind, and that was to take victory in one of the toughest desert races in the world, The Tecate SCORE Baja 500

The Sweet Taste of Victory
The Banning race team had all their basis covered going into the 2009 Baja 500.  This starts all the way back with vehicle preparation in the race shop.  The car was prepared by some of the best off road technicians as well as the best partners in the business and Banning Motorsports is very thankful for those people and the team in assisting in another successful race weekend.  During the pre run for the event Chris Goddfrey took a lot of time in preparing very good course notes and strategy so 1202 did not fall victim to the rough terrain and tough conditions this race produces each and every year.  We want to thank the chase team that includes Levi, Kyle, Dennis, Clayton, Tommy, Brian, Scoop, Rick, Dennis, and Cooper for all of their hard work and dedication to a winning team.
The Race

1202 left the line second with an 11:00 a.m start time.  With all the chase teams dispersed down the course, Lee left the line with Chris in the co-pilot position, and they did everything they had to do to put the buggy on the top of the list.  The first half of the race went smooth with Lee and Chris in the car hitting their marks and running a smooth and error free race.  With solid stops at each pit, it aloud 1202 to be on the top spot coming to the driver change at race mile 200 were Lee Sr. would get out.  At that time Lee handed the steering wheel over to Lee Jr. who would go on to finish the race, while Chris would still hold down the fort in the Co-pilot seat.  The BFG Tires where put to the test and held up great not having one flat the entire day.  Jr. was making great time as he started making it through the pacific side of the peninsula.  At the final stop a quick splash of fuel was added and the KC HiLites light bar where installed and Jr. and Chris were on track for the final stint that finished in Ensanada.  The chase teams all were there to greet Jr. and Chris at the finish line were they celebrated on the roof of the car and hands high in the air as Banning Motorsports has just won one of the toughest races offerd to the off road community. Once again this would not have been possible without the support of the entire Banning Motorsports race team and partners such as BFGoodrich tires, Fat Performance, Fox Shox, Foddrill Motorsports, F&L Fuels, KC HiLites, Mendeola, Weddle Industries, Action Auto Transmission, Slime, IONearth, IRC, Trail Ready, Foddrill Fabrication, K&N Filters.

The next race for Banning Motorsports is the longest point to point race in the U.S.A.  Its the Vegas to Reno "The Long Way" hosted by The Best in The Desert racing organization.  We are looking for great results and to keep this years moment moving forward.  Thanks again to everyone for their support.  Also for team members if you have not yet reserved your spot for this event please contact Amy so the necessary reservations can be made.

Sincerely,

Amy Perez-Banning
